Team Aspire-Week 22
40 days and counting to the Apsire Urgent Care and Family Medicine Harrisburg Marathon and Relay! I am excited as we build up to our final training runs. I recently read some tips on marathon training (not as good as Lindsay’s of course). The one point was that it ”takes a village” for marathon training preparation; the motivation, encouragement, babysitters for some of us, running partners, hydration volunteers, etc. Although an overused saying, I found that very true. Team Aspire is part of that village. Congratulations to everyone who completed last weeks 16 mile route. Thank you to Ray Rizzo for manning the water station for several hours! What a trooper.
We are on a “back down” week and running 12 miles. This is recovery for next weeks 18 mile run. The route is below.
I am in need of someone to volunteer for the hydration station for this week. A volunteer would be greatly appreciated (I am covered for the next couple of weeks so I won’t bug you for a few weeks). Please let me know if you are able to help. Please meet at City Island at 6:45 (at the walnut street bridge).
Registration for the Harrisburg Marathon is available at
www.harrisburgmarathon.com. In order to get the Team Aspire $10 discount you need to
print out the registration and mail it in. Please mark the registration form with your membership card number and deduct the $10 from your registration fee. As a reminder, if you are interested in the relay, let me know, I am pairing teams together.
If you are interested in ordering your Team Aspire tech shirt for the Marathon or Relay, and haven’t done so yet, you can order your shirt this week or next week at Saturday’s run or stop by the Aspire Urgent Care and Family Medicine office, 49 Prince Street, Harrisburg, PA.
Team Aspire Week 20
We had a fabulous run on Saturday-Week 20. Our run was 15 miles and this was a new accomplishment for many people. Everyone looked fabulous…like they had only run 8 miles. Great job. A big thank you to Beau Shirk who manned the water station. This is Mark Shirk’s brother from out of town. He was visiting and Mark recruited him….I’m guessing he won’t visit during training season again. Kidding. He was a great sport.
This week, Week 21, 16 miles! The route is below. If you enlarge the map, it is a little easier to follow the route. We will go over it in detail on Saturday morning.
Please meet at 6:45 on City Island at the beginning of the Walnut Street (walking) bridge. Gu gel will be available for purchase. Remember it is very important to feul up throughout these longer distance runs.
We are in need of volunteers for the hydration station. We will have one station, but due to the nature of the route, we will pass it 3 times. Ideally, it would be nice to have 2 different volunteers, an early shift and late shift. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are not running and can volunteer or if you can recruit someone. Team Aspire Week 20
Barring any earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, volcano eruptions, etc. we will be running/walking 15 miles this Saturday for Week 20. Only 8 more weeks until the Apsire UCFM Harrisburg Marathon and Relay!!! First, congratulations to everyone that ran 13 miles on the Conewaga trail for Week 18-You were great troopers for running through the rain storm (we won’t mention the lightning). Thank you to Bob and Allison Kobzowicz for manning the water station.
This Saturday we will meet at 6:45 a.m. at HACC on the backside of campus on Alumni Dr. If you’ve been waiting to join us until we got our miles “up there”-now’s the time. Team Aspire is a wonderfully motivating, yet non-competitive group to run/walk with. We are all there to have fun and challenge ourselves-whatever the challenge may be- a new distance, a better personal time (we have fast and slow runners/walkers), etc. And if you’ve missed a few weeks-no worries-noone keeps track of who is there and who is not.
We are in need of someone to man a water station along Front Street (at Vaughn). Please let me know if you are able to do this or if you can convince a friend or family member to help.
See you on Saturday.
Run with Team Aspire!
Though we are training for the Aspire Urgent Care and Family Medicine Harrisburg Marathon and Relay, anyone can join us for our weekly runs. Don’t want to do a whole marathon? Join or form a relay team with Team Aspire and experience all the race-day excitement!
Our next run is Saturday, Sept 17 at 7am. Place TBD (check back here in next few days). Join us and bring a friend.
Call 901-3440 if you would like to be added to the Team Aspire email list.
Team Aspire Week 18
Oh my goodness-we are at Week 18 already! Week 17 was a great accomplishment for many people-12 very humid miles. Great job to the 40 plus runners. Thank you Michael Brulo for manning the water station.
If you are feeling like you shouldn’t join us for our training runs because you haven’t been able to make it on Saturdays, have become injured, or are satisfied with you current accomplishment, we still want you to be a part of our training! Remember Team Aspire is not about competing with others on the team, it is about being with a group of people that are fun, supportive, and have individual and unique personal goals. Whatever that goal, the team is there to support and cheer for you.
Just a reminder if you don’t feel like you can or want to run the entire Harrisburg Marathon, there is the relay. This year the marathon will be split into 4 fairly equal distances (i.e., 6.5 miles). Last year Team Aspire had several relay teams.
This weekend we will run Conewago trail -13 miles. The link to the Conewago trail is below….straight out for 6.5 miles (we will connect to the Lebanon Valley Trail) and back . Remember this is a great trail for bikes in case you have family that would like to join you/us This is also a great route for anyone running the Harrisburg Half Marathon next Sunday (September 11th) because you can easily shorten your distance on the trail so you are well rested for the Harrisburg Half.
I am in need of volunteers to man the water stations (2 please).
Please meet at 6:45 at the parking lot at the trail head located off of Route 230. If you are not familiar with this area, directions are below.
If you are coming from Route 283, take the Toll House Road/Route 230 Exit. Follow Route 230 East for slightly over 2 miles. The “Plant Place” and a boarded up Getty gas station will be on your left-adjacent is the parking lot to the trail. The parking lot is not very large, but we can park at the Getty gas station-or on the grass along the road.
For future planning (because I still need hydration volunteers), most of our upcoming runs will be in the downtown and HACC area.
